now where was i?

I know, I know, I posted way way back in December and since then NOTHING! What gives right? What gives indeed. Had a SLIGHT disagreement with the husband about content of the blog. But after several months of debate, I decided to start posting again and see how long it takes for him to figure it out – ha ha ha. No seriously, I was overwhelmed by the number of people who actually read the blog and commented on the fact (more like called me out) that there had not been any recent posts.

There is no way I can go back and remember every thing that has happened in 3 months and give you a glimpse of what happens down here in Wellonsland, but I will give it a shot.

When last I left off, we were on the road heading north to Wintergreen Ski Resort nearly on our time schedule. Our goal was to get north of Atlanta before stopping for the night. Everything was going along great until we got east of Montgomery, AL on I65 just about to Auburn and then it started snowing. Yep, snowing! And not just a flurry or two, I mean full on snow. This is about the time I started receiving the texts from my mother begging us to turn around. These continued throughout the night. We ended up stopping at a Waffle House just over the Georgia state line for our Christmas dinner. It was great! The kids were extremely happy to have breakfast for dinner and I must say the snow falling down blanketing the cars was really pretty. I think that was Jim’s favorite part of the trip. Back on the road which was deserted (shock) and in pretty good shape. In downtown Atlanta with the road to ourselves I was still getting the doom and gloom texts from mother. I started taking pictures out the window to send to her. The snow wasn’t that bad. She was watching the Weather Channel and she “knew” what the conditions were like. I, on the other hand, was DRIVING through it and therefore could not possibly know what I was talking about.

It continued to snow on us for most of the next travel day. By the time we got to Wintergreen we figured we had been driving in snow for over half the trip.

The kids LOVED the snow, and spending time with their cousins! It totally made the trip worth it. This year everyone was signed up for what we thought was ski school. The girls did manage to make it outside on the “magic carpet” for a few hours both days, but they weren’t really skiing. Ben did not do as well. We stopped by several times but were unsuccessful in getting any footage or really proof that he was on the snow. Although his Aunt Lindley was able to see him and numerous cousins also had Ben sightings so we feel like he did get out there. He has talked nonstop about how good he was.  He has decided that next time he actually wants to ski.  So we will see what Christmas 2011 has in store.

By the end of the trip, Jim and I decided to take the girls out on the slopes to see what they had learned.  We were impressed!  But their skiing styles couldn't be more different.  Lilly is very careful with her nice turns and stops, while Lucy has the mentailty of a downhill skier; just barrelling down the mountain NOT at all concerned with how it looks.  I think we are going to look into private lessons next time.

All too soon it was time to pack back up and head south. We made it home on the 30th. One of Jim’s good friends was in Pensacola for the New Year so we decided to drive over for the EARLY New Year’s festivities. We stayed for the raising of the Pelican. It was pretty cool. Lucy was bummed we weren’t going to be there to watch it fall. Sorry Lucy, maybe in a few years.  We made it back home in time for the ball to drop in NYC (eastern time).  Hello 2011!
