Here we are, first week of April and we are STILL on Spring Break. I pretty much blew all the creativity last week while we were in Northern Arizona. I've got nothing left ... we are basically are just cruising through the week. It is the week of the Yuma County Fair so there is that. However, being a small town fair, it is fairly expensive - no pun intended. I did promise the kids we would go though, so we met some friends and decided to fair it up!
Last year Lucy and Ben were very conservative on their ride selection. Ben was bitten by the High Risk bug this year so he and Lilly spent all their tickets on the big thrills. Lucy on the other hand was more cautious. Maybe next year the daredevil trait will present itself.
It was hot the day we went and the kids were going through our tickets like water so we took a break and went inside the hall to escape the sun and slow the amount of money flowing outside my wallet. Mostly the hall had some homemade sewing displays, art, and business exhibitions. There were a few hands-on activities for the kids like this giant bubble wand. It was hard to get them to leave.
The base hosts an airshow every other year, and this year one of the activities was a run-the-runway 5K. Jim tried very hard to get the kids to participate but in the end he was only successful in snagging one. Ben set a new PR of 27'15"! Way to go Ben!
Spring Break isn't tied to Easter here in Yuma, so a week after spring break we geared up to celebrate Easter! Every year I cut back on the number of eggs we dye. This year we picked up an extra kid to "help". The correlation between the children's age to prettier eggs is evident.
Right after the kids finished up with the eggs I took them to a local Taco Festival. They scattered to the winds as soon as we walked in the event which was fine with me and my friend. That gave us an opportunity to walk around, sample the food and margaritas! It was nice, I am not going to lie. We might have to start a new Wellons Family tradition of Easter Eggs and Tacos!

It was very spirited but less physical than years past. No one fought over any of the eggs. We saved all the fighting for later. Us fighting with the kids over the amount of candy they ingested ... when can that tradition change?
As if they didn't have enough candy, there was another egg hunt at Church. Lilly had "aged out" but she got a treat for helping with the hunt for the younger kids so basically she got all the reward without running around for it.
Science Fair is STILL going on here in the Wellons household. Lilly qualified for an event in Phoenix. She was pretty excited to have a sleep over with one of her friends and the Principal!! If you had told me when I was in 6th grade I had to go on an over night with my principal and present my science fair in the state capital, I would not be smiling!
While I went to an adult dinner to collect my "trophy," Jim picked up the girls from their weekend of camping with the Girl Scouts. Win for everyone, except maybe Jim.
We are winding the month down and the last month of school is LOOMING in our faces. So many things to do in May, I don't even want to think about it. But first SUSHI!!! Ben doesn't like it, so when he had a fishing trip to the river with Jim and Wesley, the girls and I took advantage!
| Ben said, even though he didn't catch anything he had the better deal. |
| The girls said - We disagree! |
