If September left you wanting more, then October should be your cup of tea! There was 31 days of running around like chickens with our heads cut off - Thank you very much. We start out of month with Lilly going to a Spa themed birthday party. This could be dangerous. All the children loved to be pampered, but if it is possible for one to like it more that child would be Lilly. The night started with her getting a facial and then a hair and makeup "make over". She is 11. I am not sure how much of a make over she needs, but she really really enjoyed it. I really need to look into getting contacts for her, or maybe not. WOW!!
That left Lucy and Ben to have an evening with us. It doesn't happen all that often so we took advantage and went downtown for dinner. The best part for them was sitting on the bike shaped bike racks.
The second week finds the kids and I headed to Colorado with another family to enjoy Fall Break! The kids were super excited, and so was I. Jim on the other hand, not so much. He was unable to come due to the flight phase of WTI kicking off. Finally - I get a perk!!! Usually perks are strictly for him. He, of course was excited for us to have fun, just not too much fun. Whatever gets you through the night Jim. Ha Ha
Our first night we stopped in Flagstaff and ran into the Mr. Peanut-mobile in the parking lot of our hotel. I didn't even know where was such a thing! The Oscar Myer Hot Dog-mobile I have seen. Wonder how many more of these things are out there?
The next day we made it to Delores, CO. There kids were in HEAVEN!! Nothing to do but hike, fish, play in the river and explore the great outdoors. The house sported only one TV, no cable and spotty internet. So I will admit I was a little worried there would be grumbling or gnashing of teeth. Not so! The kids had too much to do to complain. They played in that freezing cold river EVERY DAY! They even found a float and took turns floating down it. INSANE!
We took two day trips while we were there. One into Durango and the other into Telluride. Jim was GREEN with envy! I told him we would come back. He would love both places but especially Telluride! Another family joined us for a day and a half. It was perfect. Except no Jim. So I guess it was not quite perfect (but pretty close - shhhh don't tell him).
We had to leave a day early to get back to Yuma for a Doctor's appointment so we decided to hit up the Four Corners Monument on our way back. I figured it was the least I could do to honor Jim. Even the kids said we "had to do it". Uh Oh, he is rubbing off on us.
An update on Lilly's leg. She had an appointment with a visiting Pediatric Surgeon from Children's Hospital in Phoenix. Turns out the Doctor was a childhood friend of Jim's first cousin. Small world! She recommended we get an X-ray and also to see a Pediatric Orthopedic Surgeon. However, she did give us a diagnosis of an Osteochondroma which is a fancy name for a benign bone tumor. They are fairly common and not much is done about them unless they cause a problem, then it can be removed. We have yet another appointment in Phoenix next month.
We are still in the throes of flag football. Apparently I have angered the scheduling gods because of the eight games Lucy and Ben have had to play at exactly the same time for six of them. I have forgotten my camera for all the games. Total mother fail - I know. One of my friends recorded Ben making a touchdown, sadly, I can't open it much less add it to this blog for you to enjoy. I appreciate the effort nonetheless. On the last game, I remembered to bring my camera so I have a couple of pictures of Lucy. They are all horrible. I could not get a good angle. Sigh. The anger of the scheduling gods reached a new level, not only do Lucy and Ben play at the same time, they are on fields that are not adjacent to each other. Awesome.
Being a military kid means saying so long to some friends. Such is the case this month. Even though they only had a 1 1/2 year, a close bond was made. I feel it, because I feel the same way about their mother. Not to worry, we will see them again! Bye Friends!
An update on the relationship between Oscar and Wesley. Since Wesley's arrival to our house Oscar had taken up residence our bedroom, bathroom and closet. We installed a gate to keep Wesley out of there to ensure peace and quiet for the house. In the last month, Oscar has decided to liberate himself and has begun to come out into the rest of the house. Wesley has also taken this to mean that he can come into our room. I walked in one day and saw this. Interesting indeed.
Last up is Halloween. Jim's work put on a Trick or Trunk and so we decided to participate and since I have been trying for YEARS to get the kids to dress up as Scooby Doo and the rest of the gang. I win!!!! Originally I had planned on dressing up as Shaggy but I could not get Lucy to sign off on being Daphne. In fact she only wanted to be Shaggy.
So one costume down, a few more to go! Halloween at school. I have long told the children they should not wear their actual costume to school in fear that it would be messed up and therefore useless. This year their school had a costume parade and so the children dressed up for it. Lucy was a vampire, Ben dressed up as The Donald, and Lilly choose to be Daphne again.
Our third costume change in a few days has us actually dressing up for the real deal! Lilly choose to be Tris from Divergent, Ben a Ninja and Lucy as Eevee (a Pokemon).
Halloween during the week is just cruel, but Halloween on a Monday is particularly hard to recover from. I had dressed up as a Crazy Cat Lady, Lucy ended up sleeping in my robe and this is how I was greeted the next morning.
