First up to bat is Lucy. She had to get some teeth pulled. She had been nursing a loose one for a while, and fortunately for her it fell out the day before her dental appointment. Unfortunately for her, it wasn't one that needed to be pulled. Sorry!! There are still two in there that are on the "watch" list. Maybe she will catch a break and won't have to get those pulled and they will just come out on their own - yeah right!
We are still in the throes of Science Fair. I had hoped that we would just get a good grade and graciously ride off into the sunset. Sigh, that has not been the case. Lilly got selected to represent her grade/school/category at the County Level. While she ended up not placing she still had a great time with her friends and hopefully she learned a thing or two.
Ben is the next to be recognized! His Scout Troop had their annual Blue and Gold awards banquet and he was promoted up to Webelos 1. Jim was able to attend this with him and the girls while Nanny (who was visiting for the week) and I attended a Spouse social on base at the bowling alley.
The kids love it when family comes to visit - especially if they can weasel a "shaved ice" out of the deal. Poor Nanny, she never had a chance!
I am not sure how many more Father-Daughter dances we have left. Jim was able to squeeze one more in. Don't they all look great!!
Ben on the other hand got to go on a Mommy/Nanny/Son date. We had thought we would take Nanny to a road side taco stand but she said "No, Thank You". Next time Ben, next time....Native Wings instead.
Next up is Valentine's day!! I was a little miffed that Lilly's class was unable to celebrate it this year, especially since I had ordered her these really cute cards with bacon shaped lollipops to give out. Dang it! Lucy got onto Pinterest and came up with this idea for her box. She made it herself. It weighs about twenty pounds! I told her to not drop it since those disc are made of glass!!
Ben picked a really easy design for his Valentine box and boy was I happy and then sad. Turns out his teacher doesn't allow boxes in her classroom, she provides bags. Of course THAT little bit of information didn't make it home, sigh. Maybe we will save it for next year!
Sticking with Ben, we will move right on over to his birthday party! Or as he likes to call it, the real reason there is a month of February. Early on he decided he wanted to do a Nerf Wars theme. AWESOME! Soooo easy! I gave girls the option of spending the night out and only Lilly took me up on it. Lucy decided she wanted to hang with the boys. Fine by me! We gathered up some cardboard boxes, yard stakes, spray paint and we got busy!! By the end of the day, the boys were ready for some food and a movie then they all went back outside to sleep in the tent! SCORE!
Even the cake was easy! Lilly pretty much made the whole thing. I may be ready to farm out my duties as chief cake baker and party planner to her sooner then I thought!
The very next weekend we found ourselves in Phoenix at Junior Olympics. Ben and Lucy had qualified for several events over the course of the fall. Lilly was sooooo close in a few, but she didn't seem to be overly upset that she hadn't made it. Those two swam their hearts out!! Ben ended up on a 200 medley relay team that qualified for the state meet in March! It is like pulling teeth to get them to go to practice or sign up for meets, but once they are there, it is game on!
Once we were done with swimming we transitioned over to Spring Training Baseball! The Dodgers train in Phoenix and so we decided why not! The kids were hanging out by the bullpen and by the end of the game, all three had balls tossed out by the warmup pitchers! Lucy decided she was going to get hers signed and as soon as the game was over sprinted over to dugout and waited around with her arm stretched out! Eventually, someone signed it. We have no idea who, but she was excited!
Lilly had been diagnosed early in the fall with an osteochondroma (benign bone tumor) on her left lower thigh. While the doctor didn't think it would be a problem for her later on, he did recommend we get it removed and finally Lilly agreed. I was able to get her an appointment on the Monday following the swim meet IN PHOENIX!! My luck is NEVER that good. Oh and guess what, Jim had a meeting at Luke AFB on that day too! WHAT?!
She was all smiles going in, but not so much coming out. All in all, she handled the procedure with flying colors! The doctor took a picture of the Osteochondroma, but wouldn't let us have it. I would include a picture, but it is pretty gross.
Before she was barely conscious, she was requesting crutches. Witness this (rare) display of sisterly love on the way home in a convenience store parking lot. Luckily a neighbor had a pair of crutches we could borrow so I didn't have to hear the grumbling for too long.
Lilly's pain meds kept her home with me, but she wasn't really in much pain. In fact we were able to make a video for a contest before lunch time! Go to www.minichefs.tv/vote to view and more importantly vote for her!! Her video is the one with no preview picture. GO VOTE NOW!!!
